Energy Recovery has appointed Alex Buehler as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect, following the retirement of former President and CEO David Moon, accelerated due to personal reasons.
The California-based company, known for its energy efficiency technologies for water and industrial applications, announced that Buehler will lead the organisation until a permanent chief executive is selected.
The leadership change comes as Energy Recovery continues its previously announced search for a new CEO. The company said it has retained a leading executive search firm and will consider both internal and external candidates for the role.
Buehler brings extensive experience in the water sector and longstanding ties to Energy Recovery. He previously served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer between 2011 and 2014 and currently sits on its Board of Directors.
His most recent executive position was Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Water Services. Earlier in his career, he also served as Interim CEO of LiqTech International, a company focused on membrane and filtration technologies based on silicon carbide ceramics. In addition, he currently chairs the board of LiqTech Systems and has previously held a board position at Viscount Systems.
Buehler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
As part of the governance changes associated with his interim executive appointment, Buehler will remain a member of Energy Recovery’s Board but will step down from the Compensation and Audit Committees, including his role as Chair of the Audit Committee. Director Arve Hanstveit has been appointed to assume the position of Audit Chair.
