Maynilad Water Services, Inc. is continuing to advance its NEW WATER initiative in the Philippines, reinforcing efforts to diversify supply sources and improve resilience against climate-related pressures on conventional water systems.
At the center of this strategy is the Valenzuela Modular Treatment Plant, a facility designed to produce potable recycled water from treated effluent using advanced purification technologies. The plant is currently maintained as a standby installation, ready for activation during interruptions affecting primary sources or during scheduled maintenance. Once operational, it can deliver up to 1 million litres per day (MLD), serving selected areas in Barangay Marulas, Valenzuela City.
The NEW WATER produced undergoes multiple treatment stages—including ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and final disinfection—to ensure compliance with the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.
Maynilad previously introduced potable reuse through its Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant, the first of its kind in the country. That project received international recognition, highlighting the growing relevance of reuse solutions in urban water management.
Looking ahead, the company is preparing to commission another facility in Pasay by 2026. With a projected capacity of 12 MLD, the plant is expected to significantly expand the availability of recycled potable water across its service area.
“As water demand continues to grow and climate variability affects traditional sources, developing alternative water supply solutions like NEW WATER is becoming increasingly important,” said Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez.
The NEW WATER program forms part of Maynilad’s broader approach to strengthening supply security while promoting sustainable and responsible water resource management for the communities it serves.
