Metro Pacific Water Solutions (MPWS), a division of the Metro Pacific Group, has entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hitachi Asia Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., to explore potential collaborative ventures in the water supply and wastewater treatment sectors in the Philippines, as reported by The Manila Bulletin.
According to Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, the Philippines is grappling with significant wastewater management challenges, with an estimated 10 percent of the country’s wastewater currently being treated. This gap presents serious risks to public health and environmental sustainability. In response, the government has set an ambitious target to increase wastewater treatment coverage to 80 percent by 2028, signaling a strong commitment to tackling this issue.
MPWS is a leading provider of water and wastewater solutions across the Philippines, serving a wide array of commercial and industrial clients. With its extensive experience in delivering sustainable water solutions throughout the country, MPWS is committed to advancing the sector’s development.
Hitachi, known for its innovation in sustainable water solutions, continues to explore cutting-edge technologies to meet the Philippines’ growing water needs while adhering to the latest water quality standards. The company is focused on introducing advancements such as redesigned desalination capabilities, next-generation wastewater treatment technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven monitoring systems that enhance operational efficiency and data collection in water facilities.
Under the MOU, MPWS and Hitachi Asia Ltd. will jointly explore a variety of projects aimed at improving wastewater management across the Philippines. This includes the development of new wastewater treatment plants, as well as upgrading existing facilities to improve their capacity and efficiency. The collaboration will also involve the implementation of advanced treatment technologies and the exploration of innovative solutions to ensure a more reliable and sustainable water supply for the country.
“We are excited to be partnering with Hitachi Asia Ltd. to explore potential wastewater management projects in the Philippines,” said MPWS President Christopher Andrew B. Pangilinan.
