NanoH2O selected to supply membranes for Taiwan's largest desalination project

  • NanoH2O selected to supply membranes for Taiwan's largest desalination project

About the entity

NanoH2O has been selected to supply reverse osmosis membranes for the Tainan Seawater Desalination Plant, a project under development by Cox. The facility is expected to become Taiwan’s largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant. Once operational, it will have a daily production capacity of 200 million liters of potable water, serving more than one million residents and supporting the island’s semiconductor industry.

Under the agreement, NanoH2O will provide 10,400 membrane elements, including its SW 440 R G2 seawater membranes and BW 440 ES L brackish water membranes. The second-generation SWRO membranes are designed to deliver high salt rejection and improved energy efficiency, while allowing for a more compact system configuration. The brackish water membranes complement the system by supporting consistent and reliable performance. Together, these technologies met the technical and economic specifications required for the project.

The selection of NanoH2O for the Tainan plant reflects its role as a supplier of membrane solutions for large-scale desalination facilities and contributes to its presence in Taiwan and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

As demand for desalination and other water treatment solutions increases globally, projects such as the Tainan Seawater Desalination Plant illustrate ongoing efforts to expand water supply capacity through established reverse osmosis technologies.
