The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has awarded National Industrial Contracting Company (NICC) a contract worth approximately QAR 378.8 million ($104 million) to complete the remaining works on the Strategic Trunk Sewer from Sheehaniya to the Doha North Sewage Treatment Works (DN STW), along with the construction of the Sheehaniya Terminal Pumping Station.
The project is part of Ashghal's wastewater infrastructure programme and is intended to support future urban development and wastewater conveyance in Qatar. The works will serve an area of around 27,320 hectares in Al Sheehaniya Municipality, including Al Sheehaniya Village Areas A and B, Al Khuraib Village, seven QAF Army camps, three camel stabling areas including the El Reiss Camel Race Track, 48 farms, and the planned Sheehaniya New Residential Development. The project will also connect wastewater flows to the existing Doha North Sewage Treatment Works.
Under the contract, NICC will complete the remaining sections of the Sheehaniya Strategic Trunk Sewer, a deep sewer system designed to transport wastewater from the Sheehaniya region to the Doha North STW. The new infrastructure will include approximately 39 kilometres of trunk sewer with pipe diameters ranging from 600 mm to 1,800 mm, as well as 159 manholes, associated shafts, 25 branch connections, 27 end caps, excavation works, testing, and commissioning.

The sewer network will collect wastewater from interceptor sewers and transfer it through a deep tunnel running along the Dukhan Highway before connecting to the proposed Sheehaniya Terminal Pumping Station within the Doha North STW complex.
As part of the contract, NICC will also build the Sheehaniya Terminal Pumping Station, designed as a wet and dry well facility with a pumping capacity of 1,200 litres per second. The station will include dual wet wells, inlet and screening chambers, distribution chambers, mechanical screening equipment, biological odour control systems, HVAC systems, lifting cranes, electrical and control systems, and associated civil infrastructure.
Phase One of the pumping station is designed to accommodate wastewater flows of approximately 615 litres per second through 2037. It will include four pumps connected to two existing DN500 rising mains and two surge vessels. Additional works will comprise a crossover chamber with flow metering systems, substations, generator buildings, electrical facilities, administrative buildings, utility connections, potable water systems, and stormwater drainage infrastructure.
According to Ashghal, the project is expected to increase wastewater collection and conveyance capacity across Al Sheehaniya Municipality, supporting residential developments, military facilities, agricultural areas, and commercial activities.
Construction of the Strategic Trunk Sewer is scheduled to be completed within 1,188 calendar days, while the Sheehaniya Terminal Pumping Station is expected to be completed within 1,000 calendar days from the commencement date. Both components will be followed by a 400 day maintenance period after the completion certificate is issued.
