TAQA Water Solutions has, according to a recent press release, formalized a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the New Tashkent City Directorate to explore the creation of a 65-kilometer raw water transmission pipeline and an advanced water treatment facility in New Tashkent City, Uzbekistan.
This marks the company's second major water infrastructure initiative in Uzbekistan and represents a milestone toward establishing a modern and sustainable urban environment. The project aims to provide clean and reliable water to approximately two million residents.
The signing of the MoA marks the beginning of a critical phase for this essential infrastructure initiative. Under the agreement, TAQA Water Solutions has been granted an exclusive period to develop a comprehensive proposal, including in-depth technical and financial evaluations. These assessments will determine the project’s feasibility and pave the way for a sustainable, bankable solution.
The agreement was signed by Eng Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, and Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate. With TAQA Group’s extensive experience in developing and managing large-scale infrastructure projects, the agreement underscores the company's standing as a leading provider of sustainable water resources worldwide.

Upon completion, the project will ensure the supply of sustainable drinking water sourced from the Charvak Mountain Reservoir to New Tashkent City. The infrastructure will include a state-of-the-art water treatment plant equipped with advanced technologies to meet the highest international water quality standards. The 65-kilometer raw water transmission pipeline will have a daily capacity of over 500,000 cubic meters and generate up to 20 megawatts of hydropower, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of clean water to support the city's continued expansion and future needs.
Eng Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of TAQA Water Solutions, stated: "TAQA Water Solutions' partnership with the New Tashkent City Directorate marks a new era in water security, aligning with the UAE's public-private partnership ambitions. Building on last year’s success in leading the development of Tashkent's largest wastewater treatment plant, we are eager to embark on developing comprehensive evaluations and assessments for this new project that will set new standards for sustainable resource management and contribute to the long-lasting wellbeing and prosperity of the New Tashkent City community. Through close collaboration, we are committed to supporting the development of thriving communities and securing a bright future for generations."
Maksud Abbaskhanov, Deputy Director of the New Tashkent City Directorate, expressed his enthusiasm: "We are delighted to sign this agreement with TAQA Water Solutions as we know that the capabilities they bring to this agreement are outstanding, based on years of experience in Abu Dhabi. Developing this project will supply the people of New Tashkent with a reliable and sustainable operation that has proven its strength as state-of-the-art in the UAE, which goes alongside the reputation of TAQA Water Solutions and its engineers. This agreement is a significant step, and I am more than confident that the cooperation we have had over the past couple of months in developing this agreement has laid a solid foundation for the next steps."
With a total estimated value of AED2 billion ($544 million), the project reflects a strategic investment in the future growth of New Tashkent City. By securing the city's long-term water supply, it supports economic development and enhances the overall quality of life for residents.
This initiative also strengthens the growing partnership between the UAE and Uzbekistan, highlighting both nations' shared commitment to sustainable progress and economic advancement.
