French environmental services group Veolia has announced the acquisition of Enviropacific, an Australian remediation and waste management company previously owned by Next Capital, in a deal valued at about AUD 220 million (approximately US$154 million).

The transaction, which remains subject to financial close and customary conditions, will see Veolia integrate a business that reported turnover of roughly AUD 250m in the 2025 financial year and employs close to 300 people. The move is aimed at strengthening the company’s capabilities in remediation, water treatment and hazardous waste management across Australia.

The acquisition comes as concerns over per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, continue to grow in Australia and globally. The chemicals, widely used in firefighting foams at defence sites, airports and industrial facilities, have contaminated soil and groundwater in multiple regions. Tighter regulatory frameworks are driving increased monitoring and clean-up efforts, contributing to rising demand for advanced treatment technologies.

Veolia has operated in the Australian PFAS treatment market for more than two decades, providing services including soil remediation, contaminated waste processing and water treatment. Its operations are supported by infrastructure such as thermal treatment and soil washing facilities, landfill assets and water treatment sites.

The company said the addition of Enviropacific, described as a locally recognised leader in soil remediation, would expand its capacity to deliver integrated services to industrial and public sector clients. The deal is also expected to support Veolia’s broader goal of generating €1bn in revenue from micropollutant treatment by 2030 through its BeyondPFAS offering.

Veolia indicated that combining its global technologies with Enviropacific’s engineering and field expertise would help accelerate growth in Australia’s remediation and PFAS treatment markets, while improving operational efficiency.

“This move reinforces our position as a trusted partner for Australian public authorities and industries seeking resilient, future-ready solutions to treat pollution contribution to public health protection. It is fully aligned with our GreenUp strategy and marks a new step in strengthening Veolia’s global leadership in environmental security,” said Estelle Brachlianoff, CEO of Veolia. “With this acquisition, Veolia continues to pioneer new standards in environmental remediation and accelerate the deployment of our most advanced technologies in Australia. This is exactly what GreenUp is about: combining innovation, performance and impact to address the world’s most critical environmental challenges.”
