Welspun Enterprises Limited (WEL), the infrastructure and energy division of Welspun World, has won a major contract to Develop, Construct, and Manage a 2,000 MLD (million litres per day) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at the Bhandup Complex in Mumbai, awarded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), reports Business Standard.
Mumbai’s new water treatment facility is valued at Rs 4,123.88 crore (around $500 million) and aims to address the city's persistent water scarcity issues. Situated within BMC’s Bhandup Complex, which currently caters to Mumbai City's water needs, it also promises to be among the world's largest in capacity.
WEL has teamed up with Veolia, a leading water technology firm, as its technology partner for this endeavor.
The contract encompasses the design, construction, and operations and maintenance of the plant, with an O&M component of Rs 1,880.44 crore. The project is scheduled for completion within 48 months, after which WEL will manage operations and maintenance for 15 years.
