The next United Nations Water Conference will be held in 2026.
The General Assembly resolution (A/78/L.110) entitled “Modalities of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference to Accelerate the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all” has been adopted by consensus.
The event will be co-hosted by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and will will be held in the UAE from 2-4 December 2026 to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6.
The previous event - the United Nations 2023 Water Conference - was the first for almost 50 years. Its full title was the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development,” 2018–2028, and it generated significant momentum towards enhancing water action and political commitment at all levels to address water-related challenges.
The United Nations 2026 Water Conference will be the first to be held since the launch of the UN System-wide Strategy for Water and Sanitation in July 2024.
