As part of the webinar Shaping the Future of Water - From Connectivity to Operational Efficiency, organized by HMS Networks and Smart Water Magazine with the collaboration of Envirochemie, Veolia, and the Industrial Cybersecurity Center, a panel of water industry leaders dedicated a session to exploring the benefits of Smart Water in practice. The discussion focused on leveraging digital solutions to address key challenges, improve efficiency, and support sustainability goals, with the participation Xavier Cardeña, Water & Wastewater Specialist at HMS Networks, Sebastian Spielhoff, Digital Service Group Leader at Envirochemie, and Ahmed Ganainy, Middle East & Turkey Digital Manager at Veolia.

A key theme was the value of starting with smaller pilot projects to implement smart water technologies. These pilots allow for testing and refining solutions before scaling up using standardized products, ensuring measurable, long-term improvements. Connectivity, a foundational aspect of Smart Water, was highlighted as essential for integrating diverse systems and transforming raw data into actionable insights. Technologies such as SCADA systems, Master PLCs, and advanced sensors enable automation and real-time monitoring, giving water operators immediate, actionable information to improve decision-making.

Through case studies and actionable strategies, the session underscored how Smart Water technologies drive efficiency, reduce costs, and help organizations meet ambitious sustainability targets, positioning digital transformation as essential to the water sector's future.
