2022 was the year of Idrica's consolidation as a leading player in the digital transformation of the water sector, thanks to the progressive development of the most comprehensive portfolio of technological solutions on the market. In fact, over the past year, the company has added several new solutions to its portfolio targeting urban irrigation, agriculture and river basins, which all draw on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. In the words of Jaime Barba, CEO of Idrica, "these technological developments provide digital transformation solutions in all areas: drinking water, sanitation, urban irrigation, agriculture, water resources and reuse." In this sense, the company's stake in Cleverpy, a startup specializing in technologies such as Machine Learning, Artificial Vision and Georeferenced Information Systems, has also provided further impetus in building its portfolio.
Thanks to this growth and consolidation strategy, Idrica doubled its turnover in 2022 compared to 2021, and exported its technology and know-how to water utilities around the world. This international expansion, which already saw the company open subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Chile, Canada, Brazil and Saudi Arabia in 2021, has also opened the door to new international projects. These include the work carried out in Sistema de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de León in Mexico (SAPAL), which enabled the utility to boost efficiency, reducing water losses by 54% and energy costs by 39%.
Another milestone reached in 2022 was the partnership agreement Idrica reached with TRIPLE A, Sociedad de Acueducto, Alcantarillado y Aseo de Barranquilla S.A. E.S.P. (Colombia), which supplies drinking water to over 2.8 million people in Barranquilla, as well as 14 municipalities in the Atlántico Department, through a network of more than 3,000 kilometers. In fact, Idrica's work will be focusing on improving the water efficiency of the drinking water system in Barranquilla, providing TRIPLE A with a software solution to reduce non-revenue water and improve the company's OPEX.
Xylem Vue powered by GoAigua
Another of the major projects in 2022 was carried out in conjunction with the multinational Xylem, consisting of installing 6,000 sensors in the Yorkshire Water network, enabling the British utility to increase its digital transformation, reduce costs, improve efficiency and optimize the lifespan of its assets.
It is worth noting, at this point, that 2023 has kicked off with the start of a closer relationship with Xylem, following the signing of a partnership agreement that includes combining Idrica's GoAigua technology with Xylem Vue, Xylem's portfolio of digital solutions. Under the agreement, the companies will be offering an integrated software and analytics platform known as Xylem Vue powered by GoAigua, providing water and wastewater utilities with one of the most comprehensive digital portfolios on the market. According to Jaime Barba, "This partnership is another step forward for utility managers and operators who want a simple and secure water-specific digital platform to unlock operational value."
Moreover, Idrica's efforts to consolidate its position as a benchmark company in the digital transformation of the sector were also rewarded in the form of awards last year. In June, Idrica received the Digital Transformation Company of the Year award from iAgua magazine, acknowledging its work in encouraging the use of new technologies in the water sector. On the subject, Idrica's CEO said he was "very proud, given the difficulties involved in working on the digital transformation of the water sector as a supplier." In addition, the Qatar Public Works Authority, Ashghal, recognized the work carried out by Idrica Qatar (Aguas de Valencia WLL), awarding it first prize at its Green Awards gala.
In view of the milestones reached in 2022, Idrica plans to continue focusing its efforts on the digital transformation of water through Xylem Vue powered by GoAigua, at a time when the optimization and intelligent use of water is essential to move towards meeting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
