AECOM has acquired Consigli, a five-year-old artificial intelligence company based in Oslo, in a transaction valued at approximately 4 billion Norwegian kroner (about $390 million), according to Dagens Næringsliv and industry reports.
AECOM operates globally in infrastructure consulting and engineering, generating more than $16 billion in annual revenue and employing around 51,000 people worldwide. The company competes with firms such as Jacobs Solutions, WSP Global, Bechtel, Fluor, KBR, EMCOR Group, Parsons Corporation, and Stantec, among others.
Founded in 2020, Consigli develops AI-based tools for building and infrastructure design and engineering. The company’s financial performance has not been publicly disclosed, but PitchBook reports that it raised approximately $5.18 million in funding prior to the acquisition. Consigli markets its platform as “The Autonomous Engineer,” offering automation across several areas, including space analysis and unit optimization, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) load calculations, clash-free Level 3 building information modeling (BIM), and preparation of tender documents with integrated risk analysis.
According to Dagens Næringsliv, Consigli states that its technology can reduce engineering time by up to 90% and cut material usage by roughly 20%. AECOM has said the acquisition is intended to shorten design cycles, reduce early-stage project risk, and improve material efficiency.
Before the transaction, AECOM and Consigli had already collaborated on several projects. Following the acquisition, Consigli’s founder and chief executive, Janne Aas-Jakobsen, will assume the role of Head of AI Engineering at AECOM. It has not been confirmed whether Consigli will continue to operate as a standalone commercial entity or be used exclusively for AECOM’s internal operations.
