Anglian Water, a major water company serving over 6 million customers in England, has initiated pre-market engagement to seek partners for its ambitious capital delivery programme, informs New Civil Engineer. This initiative, valued at up to £750 million, aims to bolster the company's infrastructure, including the construction of two new reservoirs.

The company is in search of one or more partners to support the delivery of its business plans spanning the next 15 years. The focal points of this endeavour are the capital delivery programme and the construction of two new strategic reservoirs.

Anglian Water is currently in the planning stages for these reservoirs, with a target operational timeframe set for the mid to late 2030s. One of the reservoirs will be in Lincolnshire and hold 55 million cubic metres of water. It will have the potential to supply up to 166 million litres of water a day for up to 500,000 homes a year. It is proposed that water will be abstracted from the River Witham when river levels allow. This will be supported by a piped transfer from the River Trent to the River Witham. The second reservoir is planned in the Fens, in partnership with Cambridge Water. It will have the potential to supply up to 87 million litres of water a day for up to 250,000 homes a year.

The envisioned strategic delivery partner contract(s) are anticipated to span approximately 15 years to ensure seamless integration with Anglian Water Services, delivering tangible outcomes for customers and the environment.

At this preliminary stage, the division of the contract into lots remains undecided. The envisaged scope of work for potential partners includes various aspects such as programme management, programme controls and governance, pre-enabling, pre-delivery, and delivery-related functions.

To shed further light on the project's scope, Anglian Water will host a webinar on Thursday, April 25th, at 9 am UK time. Although not mandatory, prospective suppliers have until April 30th to express their interest. The official contract notice is slated for publication in June.

This development comes on the heels of Anglian Water's announcement confirming the continuation of all existing @one Alliance partners, who have been delivering the utility’s AMP7 programme, for AMP8. Existing partners – Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO – have already delivered £1.3 billion in work, half of Anglian Water’s overall enhancement portfolio, so far in AMP7 (2020-2025). In addition, Binnies rejoined the @one Alliance starting 1 April 2024.

The @one Alliance is set to deliver a record £2.6 billion of the water company’s overall investment in AMP8 for 2025-2030, as part of Anglian Water’s wider, record £9 billion proposed plans for AMP8.
