About the entity

SIWI is a leading expert in water governance. We are also a curator of change, championing water solutions for a just, prosperous, and sustainable future.

The Board of SIWI has appointed Christel Wiman as Acting Executive Director for SIWI, replacing Karin Gardes, who has held the Acting ED role since April 2023 and who is currently on sick leave from her position as Chief Operating Officer.

Christel Wiman has previously been head of negotiations and vice CEO for Sveriges Hotell- och Restaurangföretag, SHR, (now Visita), and CEO for Ports of Stockholm. She has held several interim CEO positions, such as for Stockholm Globe Arena Fastigheter and the foundation Stockholms Borgerskap. In addition, she sits on several boards.

Christel Wiman will serve as Acting Executive Director for SIWI awaiting the appointment of a permanent ED. This recruitment process has been initiated by The Board.

“SIWI has an important role to play in the world of water. As hosts of World Water Week and Stockholm Water Prize, and with a large number of international projects and programmes, SIWI has a strong international reputation. SIWI’s staff is committed to make an impact and contribute to positive change in global water issues. My role will be to guide SIWI towards an even stronger position until a permanent ED is in place,” says Wiman.

Christel Wiman has appointed Programme Director Håkan Tropp as Acting Chief Operating Officer, following Karin Gardes sick leave. Tropp is a Programme Director in the COO team and a long-time staff member of SIWI. He is a water governance and policy strategist and specialist, with over 20 years of international hands-on experience to catalyse and facilitate water resources and services policy development and implementation in emerging and low-income economies in Africa and Asia.

“I look forward to continuing to contribute to develop and implement SIWI’s strategic water governance offerings with both current and new partners. SIWI, as a leading expert on water governance, is well positioned to innovate and develop new water governance knowledge and insights that can be used for capacity development, stakeholder engagement and policy advice,“ says Tropp.
