Deutsche Bank has arranged a €144 million financing facility to advance Côte d'Ivoire’s "Eau pour Tous" (Water for All) programme, aimed at dramatically increasing access to clean drinking water and supporting sustainable development goals.
The funding, structured as an export credit facility, will enable the Ivorian government to implement water infrastructure projects developed by the Mitrelli Group. A portion of the loan is guaranteed by Atradius Dutch State Business N.V., the Netherlands' export credit agency, which helps reduce financial risk and facilitates essential development in emerging markets.
Launched in 2017, the Water for All programme is a major national initiative focused on delivering safe drinking water to 97% of the population by 2025. The first phase, backed by this financing, includes the construction of 95 urban hydraulic systems. These systems—comprising water towers and extended networks—will help bring clean water closer to underserved and rural communities.
The initiative is expected to deliver wide-ranging benefits:
Enhanced public health through reduced incidence of waterborne diseases
Increased economic productivity, especially for women and children, who often bear the burden of collecting water
Improved quality of life across communities
Greater resilience through a stable and accessible water supply
“This financing is a great example of how Deutsche Bank supports critical infrastructure that can help improve lives. By supporting Côte d’Ivoire expand access to clean water, we are playing a role in enabling healthier communities and driving long-term economic development,” said Alarik d'Ornhjelm, Head of Structured Trade & Export Finance for Middle East and Africa.
