Aquatech has been selected to provide desalination technology for the Inner Harbor Water Treatment Campus in Corpus Christi. Once completed, the facility will become the third largest seawater desalination plant in the Americas and the first of its kind in Texas.
The plant will have the capacity to produce 30 million gallons (113 million liters) of potable water per day and is part of the City of Corpus Christi's efforts to secure a long-term, drought-resilient water supply for the Coastal Bend region.
The plant is expected to be one of the world’s most efficient desalination facilities, offering high-quality potable water with minimal energy consumption. Construction is set to begin in early 2026, with the facility scheduled for completion in 2028. Kiewit has been chosen as the prime contractor, and GHD will provide process design services.
Ravi Chidambaran, CTO & President at Aquatech, commented, “As an American company with deep roots in desalination, delivering our technology for Texas' first large-scale SWRO plant – and one of the largest in North America – is a real source of pride for Aquatech. This project's unmatched energy efficiency, along with its innovative approach to mitigating biofouling and minimizing chemical use, will provide the Coastal Bend region with an affordable, drought-resilient water source of the highest quality.”
