SUEZ and GRDF partner to transform smart metering and resource management

  • SUEZ and GRDF partner to transform smart metering and resource management

SUEZ, a global leader in circular solutions for water and waste, and IOWIZMI, a fully-owned subsidiary of gas distributor GRDF, have signed a strategic 10-year contract. SUEZ will use the network deployed by GRDF for its 11 million smart gas meters to remotely read its water meters. The contract will simplify access for local authorities to a multiservice remote reading offer that can be deployed in all areas wishing to preserve their water resources.

With this contract, SUEZ, a leader in remote water reading with 7 million smart water meters deployed worldwide, will access GRDF's 169 MHz network to collect data from smart meters operated by the company in France. The pooling of existing infrastructure enables large-scale water management, while also optimising the economic and environmental impact of the service.

By enabling precise monitoring of water consumption, remote reading of meters is an essential tool for helping to control water consumption. SUEZ, through its Digital Solutions subsidiary, has developed ON'connect™, a digital smart metering and consumption monitoring solution that can save up to 16% on water volumes. This solution enables better leak detection, continuous monitoring of consumption and the provision of individualised advice to users.

This contract is part of the WIZE alliance, which brings together around forty stakeholders. SUEZ and GRDF are founding members. The WIZE alliance promotes and facilitates the use of connectivity solutions using the 169 MHz network, which is entirely open and royalty-free, in France and internationally.

WIZE technology is a robust solution that has been used for over 10 years. It provides reliable, high-performance data transmission, even for hard-to-reach and buried objects. It meets the specific requirements needed for remote reading of meters and optimised resource management. Simple and quick to deploy, this technology enables high levels of performance to be achieved without installing repeaters and with a reduced number of antennas.
